Trespass Warning and Appeals

Pursuant to Florida State Statue 1012.97, Campus Police Officers are empowered to enforce all State laws, local ordinances, and University policies on or within 1000 feet of University property. Consistent with their responsibility to ensure the campus remains safe, all officers are authorized to issue a trespass warning to anyone under the following circumstances:

  • An individual has committed a crime
  • An individual has violated a College policy or procedure
  • An individual is engaged in threatening or disruptive behavior
  • An individual is found in a location at a time or under circumstances that causes concern for the safety of persons and / or property on campus.
  • Following a request from a University administrator or other member of the University community where, after review by Campus Police Department officials, the request is deemed to be warranted.

A trespass warning advises a person that they are not authorized to be on University property, or any portion thereof, and may be subject to arrest without further warning if he or she refuses to leave the property or returns at any time in the future. Trespass warnings remain in full force and effect unless revoked by the appeal process, or the person who has been warned becomes a student or university employee.

Individuals who have received a trespass warning and wish to have their warning lifted must first submit an appeal to the Campus Police Chief. The appeal may be made in writing to:

Chief of Police
Campus Police Department
5800 Bay Shore Road
Sarasota, FL 34243-2197
or:

  • Via email to jcoley@ncf.edu.
  • Telephonically during business hours at 941-487-4210
  • In person by appointment only while the trespass warning is in effect

The Police Chief will personally review all appeals and reply to appellants in a timely manner.

Should the Police Chief decline to revoke the trespass warning, the appellant has the option of then appealing to the USF Sarasota-Manatee Regional Vice Chancellor, Business & Finance. The decision of the Vice Chancellor is the final decision of the University, and may not be appealed. Contact information for the Regional Vice Chancellor is as follows:
