USF Sarasota-Manatee campus commemorates Juneteenth with dance, history and a celebration of freedom
The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus commemorated Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, through dance in a program organized by the USF Center for PAinT.
This week, USF Sarasota-Manatee campus leadership unveiled a monument honoring active-duty military, veterans and their families. The monument was generously donated by The Patterson Foundation in recognition of USF’s continued and meaningful contributions to veterans and their families.

The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the U.S. on May 7, 1843 and to recognize the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869 by Chinese immigrants who laid most of the track.
