USF Sarasota-Manatee campus, Northwestern Mutual team up for leadership series

Students in a meeting

Students from the University of South Florida’s Sarasota-Manatee campus presented their “models for success” as the Northwestern Mutual Leadership Series wrapped up on Wednesday night.

The annual leadership program matches students with Northwestern Mutual executives for a series of four intensive workshops that emphasize time management, goal setting, healthy personal habits and other activities conducive to success on and off the job.

“I think this is critically important and a wonderful opportunity for all of you to engage in professional development with professionals of this high caliber,” USF Sarasota-Manatee Regional Chancellor Karen A. Holbrook, PhD, told students at a reception marking the series’ conclusion.

As Northwestern Mutual executive Anthony Holds listened, the students took turns discussing their own models for success, which included professional goal setting, long-ranging planning, attentive follow-through and healthy personal choices like starting the day early and working out.

This was the wealth management company’s fourth leadership series at the campus. The 11 students accepted into the program submitted resumes and underwent interviews. Those who completed the program received leadership certificates and $250 each at its conclusion.

“With the annual leadership series, we have found a powerful way to affect change in the lives of students, and we are beyond grateful for Northwestern Mutual’s continued partnership,” USF Sarasota-Manatee Internship and Career Readiness Coordinator Ben Hyland said.
