Elliott Wilson, USF Class of 2025

Elliott Wilson graduates December 2025 from USF with a degree in Biomedical Science

Finding his voice at USF Sarasota-Manatee

Elliott Wilson was a self-described introvert when he transferred to USF Sarasota-Manatee. However, you would never imagine that when he walked into The Loft, the student lounge space, in his graduation regalia and his fellow students broke into applause. The smile on Elliott’s face made it clear that he had found his community here, and, in that safe space he found his voice.

Elliott graduates December of 2025 with a degree in Biomedical Science and is applying to PharmD, a professional doctorate degree for pharmacists, programs to continue his education. He had an interest in a medical career, and, as he was exploring the vast possibilities in the field, he was sparked to pursue pharmacy after learning about the discovery of the life-saving uses of insulin. His classwork, especially Introduction to Medicinal Chemistry with Linda Barbeto, continued to amplify his passion for the subject.

He is also grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Goby Research Project with Lydia Wassink. Reflecting on that research experience, Elliott stated, “It widened my perspective within the field of science and helped narrow my view to what I want to do in the future.”

My experience at USF changed how I see the world. Being instilled with more grit, integrity, and experience, I feel far more prepared than before.

In an effort to gain more hands-on experience, Elliott walked into a Publix Pharmacy, inquired about a job, and was hired. This is not the type of bold behavior that you would expect out of someone who claims to have been shy. He attributes this newfound confidence to the friends that he has made on campus and the new experiences that he tried thanks to their encouragement and support.

Elliott mentioned that the small class sizes made it easy to meet new people, it was almost impossible not to. Friendships that began as study groups soon became invitations to activities that he would never have tried on his own. Like Karaoke Club where he reluctantly picked up a karaoke mic to sing for the first time and eventually became an officer of the club who is known for smashing it on emo night.

In addition to a full class schedule, multiple part-time jobs, and being actively involved in campus life, Elliott also worked as an orientation leader, academic tutor, and a resident assistant. “I stayed motivated during these times by remembering that the only limiting factor is myself,” said Wilson, “and no one else is going to do this for me.”

Knowing his story, it is easy to see why Elliott’s advice to new students is, "try to work or join clubs to get involved on campus. This is the easiest gateway to developing connections and understanding what higher education has to offer.”

Expanding your comfort zone takes courage, and Elliott rose to the occasion and took full advantage of all the experiences offered at USF.

“To be a USF graduate fills me with pride,” said Elliott, “stemming from my upbringing; I couldn’t be happier to have this title. Having worked hard throughout many days and nights, it brings a joyous finale to an extensive season.”

There is no doubt that Elliott will take his USF experience and continue to learn and grow to make a positive impact in the community.
