NOTE: Due to continuing concerns about COVID-19 (coronavirus), the following campus event has been postponed until further notice.

The University of South Florida’s Sarasota-Manatee campus will hold a unique and sumptuous Bulls Bistro dinner at the Powel Crosley Estate on Thursday, April 9, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., with proceeds benefitting the campus’ College of Hospitality & Tourism Leadership (CHTL)

The event, “Taste of the past, flavors of today,” will present a contemporary twist on classic American cuisine – all within the elegant 1920’s-era Crosley Estate, 8374 N Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, next to the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus.

The April 9 dinner will benefit hospitality programs.

With the sun setting over Sarasota Bay, patrons will be treated to an array of amuse-bouche (bite-sized hors d’oeuvres) followed by an entrée choice of peppercorn-encrusted New York strip with a wild rice medley, smoked orange-glazed chicken with orange-and-pepper confit served with pearl couscous or curry cashew sweet potatoes and cranberry served over cauliflower (vegan); all entries come with seasonal vegetables.

The cost is $75. The Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (BACVB) is co-sponsoring the event.

“As the county’s tourism department, the BACVB will always do all it can to support the tourism and hospitality industry – specifically within the region – and that starts at the college level,” BACVB Executive Director Elliott Falcione said.

“We are thrilled to host the next generation of travel, tourism and hospitality leaders enrolled at USF and hope that others within the community also continue to rally around programs such as this,” he said. “Together we can ensure the many tourism positions that play a vital role in our future success are filled by the talent that we helped to cultivate from within.”

Milan Catering will provide kitchen service, but as with all Bulls Bistro events, students and faculty from USF Sarasota-Manatee’s CHTL will be on hand to offer their talents.

The Bulls Bistro was created in October 2016 by CHTL Dean Pat Moreo, PhD, to showcase the college’s culinary expertise and wide-ranging hospitality programs. The popular Thursday night dining event takes patrons on a culinary world tour as students and faculty chefs collaborate to create inspired regional cuisines.

“This will be an exciting Powel Crosley version of our popular Bulls Bistro event,” Moreo said. “It is a wonderful opportunity to experience an evening on the bay and support the student recruiting efforts of our program. Our advisory board took the lead on this dinner and we are happily working with them to make it happen.”
