USF Sarasota-Manatee, Paint Center Host ‘Musical Selbybration’

SARASOTA, Fla. (Aug. 13, 2019) – The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee and the Florida Center for Partnerships for Arts-Integrated Teaching (PAInT) will host a “Musical Selbybration” featuring award-winning guest pianist Michael J. Caldwell, PhD.

The inaugural event will be held at USFSM’s Selby Auditorium on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m., preceded by a reception at 5:30 p.m. and followed by a post-reception at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Caldwell is a concert pianist, former U.S. artistic ambassador to Africa, Asia, Italy, South America and the Middle East, and professor emeritus who was a longtime music educator.

“I believe in cultivating learning from all sources, which is why I am so delighted to perform for USFSM students, faculty, staff and the community through the PAInT Center,” Caldwell said. “As a professor and lifelong learner, I encourage students to relate everything they do to what they are learning. Music, therefore, is also art, architecture and more. It employs cross-discipline pedagogy to fit the universe together in a way that is sharable with others.”

Caldwell is scheduled to perform selections from Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Chopin and Liszt. His appearance highlights a lineup that also includes USFSM staff member Gabby Jarmoszko and students Maxwell King, Stephen Hanna, Patrick Collins and Alexander Grubbs.

USFSM Regional Chancellor Karen A. Holbrook, PhD, will preside as master of ceremonies.
