SARASOTA, Fla. (Nov. 26, 2019) – USF Sarasota-Manatee’s Bloomberg computer lab has added a new tool to help educate the next generation of financial professionals and accountants, a 20-foot-long Bloomberg LED stock ticker.
“This device is important to help students learn about and research companies in the financial markets and to show prospective students that USFSM is committed to providing all of the tools necessary to educate them for careers in finance and accounting,” said Eddie Sanchez, DBA, a finance instructor and director of the lab.
Formally known as the David Kotok and Cumberland Advisors Bloomberg Lab, the facility opened in March 2017 following a donation from Cumberland Advisors and Chairman David R. Kotok.
Its purpose is to educate students in the use of Bloomberg financial software, which is used by more than 325,000 professionals globally for up-to-the-minute financial and economic data.
The lab is located on the campus center’s second floor. A half-dozen classes access the lab each semester, from Financial Markets and Institutions to Advanced Financial Accounting. In addition, the College of Business offers a Bloomberg Market Concepts Software certification program.
“Bloomberg is the world’s premier financial software,” Sanchez said. “It’s a must for today’s business students. The software provides them with information and data that enables them to succeed in areas of finance and accounting.”
