SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society

 

Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, Excellence.

SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society is the only national honor society formally recognizing the service and the scholastic achievements of student veterans.

Purpose 

“The purpose of the SALUTE National Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to veterans, or active service members, who are pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees and alternative certification at accredited institutions.”

Qualifications

Military Active Duty, or Honorably Discharged Veterans, who attend college at a two-year or four-year institution, with a 3.0-plus GPA, may qualify to apply for SALUTE.

 

All Undergraduate Students selected for induction to SALUTE must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualify as military/veteran student. Applicant must submit a DD-214 Member 4 copy that displays the character of service (honorable discharge). Applicants currently serving on active duty or in the Guard or Reserves must submit a copy of orders for their current duty assignment.
  • Be currently enrolled as a student, and have a minimum of 12 course credits.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards.
  • The undergraduate GPA tiers are broken down according to the following:
    1. Alpha Tier GPA: 3.75 – 4.00
    2. Bravo Tier GPA: 3.50 – 3.74
    3. Charlie Tier GPA: 3.25 – 3.49
    4. Delta Tier GPA: 3.00 – 3.24

All Graduate Students:

Need to have completed nine credit hours, hold at least a 3.5 GPA, and will be classified as “SALUTE Gold Member”

 

Professional Memberships

Professional Members are veterans who have already graduated and are engaged in their professional career.

Criteria for induction (applicant must be a veteran and meet one or more of the following):

  • Alumni of an accredited school, or collegiate chapters
  • Have made a distinctive contribution to their profession or to veterans services
  • Earned one or more degrees qualifying them to work in a profession with the above scholastic eligibility requirements and are currently working with or previously worked with student veterans
  • Matriculated student veterans who meet the above scholastic and service eligibility requirements (if applicable)
  • Support SALUTE National through monetary or talent donations
  • $100 lifetime membership fee

 

Expectations

Expectations: Professional members are expected to support their local chapters in the manner that best suits their talents and abilities and the needs of the chapters. The following serves as an example but is not all-inclusive:

  • Seeks to build a community-based team of support for the veteran or their family
  • Invests time and energy to help the veteran make informed decisions
  • Provide guidance for dealing with college chaos – bridging the gap from military structure to an academic environment

 

Honorary Membership

Honorary members may be spouses, dependents, faculty, community leaders and other non-active or non-veteran personnel, and shall be nominated by a SALUTE chapter or by SALUTE staff to the Executive Steering Committee for approval.

Criteria for induction (applicant must meet one or more of the following):

  • Spouses, dependents, faculty, community leaders and other non-active or non-veteran personnel that have made significant contributions to their local chapter
  • Essay from nominator explaining why they want to appoint member
  • Non-academic memberships
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible for U.S. permanent residence

Expectations: Honorary members are expected to support their local chapters in the manner that best suits their talents and abilities and the needs of the chapters. The following serves as an example but is not all-inclusive:

  • Mentoring SALUTE members
  • Assist members in networking with desired industry, local community, etc.
  • Assist local chapter as specified by chapter director
  • Support the cause of student veterans within the local institution and/or community
  • Support SALUTE National through monetary or talent donations
  • $100 lifetime membership fee

  • Check for Individual Membership Purchase ($35)
  • Unofficial transcript
  • DD214, NOBE
  • If you do not have a DD214 or NOBE other forms of proof may be submitted for verification
