Transition process update from Jean Kabongo
Dear USF team member,
We will be holding a listening session the week of August 10. The day and time are being confirmed and we will share that information with you next week. This will be an opportunity to hear from HR representatives and members of university leadership including Jean Kabongo, Brian Verkamp, Andrea Ortiz, Jennifer Fleischman, and Cindy DeLuca. This will also be a forum to ask any questions you may have about the transition. The session will be available virtually, in Teams, for those who cannot make it in person – a link will be provided in a future email.
As we continue working through the transition, questions may arise about a variety of topics, including space relocation. If you have questions related to moves or space, please email SAR-RelocationInfo@usf.edu. We will continue to share updates and next steps as the transition progresses. We recognize this process involves and affects different groups in different ways and that responsibilities and timelines may vary.
Impacted Employees
Impacted employees will continue to receive regular updates. HR and university leadership
are actively reviewing employee information, available positions, business needs,
and potential placement opportunities to identify appropriate matches where possible.
At this stage, impacted employees can expect:
- Continued communication regarding the status of position reviews and potential matches.
- Individual follow-up when a potential position match or transition option is identified.
- Opportunities to ask questions through designated HR contacts, office hours, and other scheduled forums.
- Additional guidance if a match is not immediately available or if an employee’s situation would benefit from further review.
If you have questions about your individual circumstances, please continue to direct them to the designated HR transition support team at HR-SMSupport@usf.edu so they can be reviewed and routed appropriately.
Teach-Out Employees
Some employees will be needed to support teach-out responsibilities before transitioning
to another role or concluding their current assignment. These situations may require
additional planning to address timing, operational continuity, and future placement
options.
Employees identified as supporting teach-out needs can expect:
- Individual communication regarding the anticipated teach-out period and related expectations.
- Clarification of reporting structure, duties, and timeline once confirmed.
- Review of potential transition options before or after teach-out responsibilities are completed.
- Additional HR support to address employment timing, benefits, and next-step planning.
In situations where teach-out needs create unique timing or placement considerations, HR and university leadership will review those situations individually to help ensure employees receive clear guidance and appropriate support.
There are many details and moving parts to this transition, and we are committed to keeping employees informed though clear communication. Additional updates will be shared as the transition process continues, including information about timelines, position matching, available support, and upcoming opportunities to ask questions.

Thank you for your continued patience, professionalism, and partnership as we work through this process together.
Sincerely,
Jean Kabongo, PhD
