Thorold (Tod) Roberts, ABD in English, teaches professional and technical writing and directs the Writing Internship Program. Since 2010, he has presented all of his courses as online-only instruction. Before joining USF in 2003, he taught at Ringling College of Art and Design, Manatee Community College, and, in Ohio, Lakeland Community College, Cleveland State University, Case Western Reserve University, and Kent State University. He was also on the faculty of Western Michigan University.

He holds a BA in English and German and an MA in English from the University of Kansas. He was a DAAD Fellow at the University of Kiel in Germany and pursued a PhD in English at Kent State University. Professor Roberts has also been a writer/editor for several firms and has been self-employed in his own freelance practice for almost 30 years. He is a member of the Society for Technical Communication.

Research

Prof. Roberts teaches from the perspective of a practitioner, not a researcher. His publications include a Purdue Univ. Press book on the history of World War II RAF pilot training in Florida, articles on corporate logistics and transportation, and satirical essays and sketches in the Journal of Irreproducible Results.
