Overview
Sarasota Cybersecurity is a truly interdisciplinary research laboratory comprised of researchers, cybersecurity experts, and students from around the globe. We connect local, state, and global partners to evidence-based cybersecurity and cybercrime research that guides on-the-ground cybersecurity decisions. Our mission is to conduct high-quality, innovative research; create a collaborative, global research ecosystem; and partner with the community to solve real-world, emerging security and cybercrime issues. We do this by leveraging our research and data in cybersecurity, cybercrime, and cyberviolence.
CyberCrime
Cybercrime refers to criminal activities that are conducted using computers, networks, or digital technologies as tools, targets, or both. Cybercrime poses significant challenges to individuals, businesses, governments, law enforcement, and society at large, requiring collaborative efforts to mitigate its impact effectively. Our research into cybercrime focuses on the human element—as offenders, victims, and investigators—in an effort to prevent cybercrimes.
Cyberviolence
The Internet and technological advancements have changed the landscape of violence victimization and perpetration. Our lab conducts research on emerging violent crime threats, such as image-based abuse, sextortion, extremist and deviant online groups, doxing, and cyber-harassment. Our goal is to connect with stakeholders, businesses, and decision-makers to improve personal safety online and protect victim-survivors.
