Health & Safety

Student Care Team

The Student Care Team comprises of the Student Outreach & Support (SOS) staff and Student Outreach Care Action Team (SOCAT) who works with students who may be distressed or whose behavior is of concern to others. This Student Care Team was started to provide support and assistance to students before more significant problems arise.

SOS staff coordinate the proactive and follow-up services of students referred for personal, emotional, mental health, and academic concerns. SOS coordinates care within the community as well as across campus resources, such as the Counseling Center, Student Accessibility Services, Student Health Services, and/or other support services at USF.

SOCAT is a multi-disciplinary campus committee and includes representatives from Student Services, Campus Police, Counseling & Wellness Center, Student Accessibility Services, Dean of Students Office, and Campus Security. Representatives from other USF Sarasota-Manatee campus offices may be consulted as needed.

The main focus of the Student Care Team is to offer supportive intervention and guidance to any USF Sarasota-Manatee campus student who is having difficulty. The goal is to help the student focus on academic success, avert more serious difficulties, and ensure the safety of both the student and the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus community.
