Recruiting with USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus

A successful business partnership is the result of building relationships with the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus community. In addition to advertising jobs and internship opportunities at your organization, you can partner with The Center for Career & Professional Development on a variety of programs and events designed to introduce your organization and career opportunities as well as prepare students for the world of work.

We seek to partner with employers who adhere to the Principles for Professional Practice, as defined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. The diverse USF community values and expects the respect and fair treatment of all people. For more information, please review our Diversity Policies and Procedures. Staffing agencies must follow Third Party Recruiting Guidelines.

Students trust the University’s career management platform, Handshake, over any public job board because they know The Center has vetted the employer. Additionally, they believe they have a chance at landing a job with your organization because you posted with us.  Handshake provides a robust filtering system to help you identify a target population. Now, you can obtain a list of students who match the position by major, courses, skills, and grade point average. Select the student's name to send an individual message.

Handshake is designed for employers to recruit from multiple colleges with one platform.  Please add “University of South Florida” to your favorites and to each job posting. Should you have any difficulties with the platform, submit a help request to Handshake.  They respond within 24 hours to employer inquiries. If you would like a demonstration of Handshake, please email Toni Ripo at aripo@usf.edu.

Internships

Internships allow employers to test talent before making a permanent offer to hire. It builds a pipeline of talent and is one of the best recruiting strategies for new college graduates. The essential criteria for internships are to assign a supervisor/subject matter expert, establish learning goals, provide meaningful work assignments, and share performance feedback.

Paying interns expands and diversifies the applicant pool.  Unpaid internships have legal constraints defined by the Department of Labor.  Internships are posted in Handshake. Here’s a guide to developing your internship program.

Building a Presence

Engage with students on a casual level with Career & Coffee Chats. Employers meet with students in a drop-in, small-group setting.  To schedule a Chat email Toni Ripo at aripo@usf.edu.
